UK local authority road maintenance survey
Local UK roads in terminal decline
Within five years one in six local roads in the UK will need to be repaired, or may even face closure, reports the 2017 UK Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance (ALARM) survey, published by Eurobitume UK and its Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA) partner, the Mineral Products Association.
The survey also revealed that over £12 billion of investment is now required to bring the local road network up to scratch.
Eurobitume’s Public Relations and Communications Committee Chair spoke to ITV News about the precarious state of local roads in the UK, which the report says is the cumulative result of decades of underfunding, an ageing network, increased traffic and wetter winters.
